Lovable turns a description into a working web app: interface, database, sign-in and hosting, built by an AI you talk to in plain language. For a prototype, an internal tool or a first version of a product, it gets you from idea to something clickable faster than anything else we have scored.

The catch is that everything, from building to hosting the finished app, runs on credits. Costs are predictable while you are exploring and less predictable once users arrive, and complex apps still reach a point where a developer has to take over the code.

Pro or Business

Both include the same 100 monthly credits, so Business is not a bigger credit bundle. The extra $25 buys organizational controls: single sign-on, a security center, role-based access, personal projects hidden from the rest of the workspace, and internal publishing, which lets you publish an app that only logged-in members of your workspace can open. For a solo founder or a small team, Pro is the plan; Business is for companies deploying internal tools.

What it builds well

Lovable is strongest on the kind of app most people want first: a front end in React, sign-up and log-in, a database behind it and a handful of screens that read and write data. It writes real code you can export and sync to GitHub, which is the most important escape hatch in this category, and the Supabase-based backend means the data model is ordinary Postgres rather than something proprietary.

Where you will need a developer

Iterating on a complex app costs credits every time you ask for a change, and the AI can go in circles on problems it does not understand. Payments, unusual integrations, performance tuning and anything security-sensitive are where most projects hand over to a human. Plan for that moment so it does not catch you out: keep the project in GitHub from early on, so the code is ready for someone else to pick up.

Who it's for

Founders and product people validating an idea, internal tools, and prototypes that need to be real enough to test with users. The Supabase wiring being handled for you removes the step that usually stalls non-developers.

Who it isn't for

A marketing site or a brochure. Using an app builder for five static pages is slower and more expensive than any builder here. It is also not yet a substitute for a developer on anything with genuinely complex logic.

Limits worth knowing

  • Credit consumption rises sharply with iteration
  • Complex requirements still need a developer to finish
  • Output quality varies between runs on the same prompt
  • You inherit a React and Supabase codebase, with the maintenance that implies

Questions people ask

Do I own the code Lovable generates?

Yes. It exports a real React codebase and syncs to GitHub, so you can take the project to any developer or host. This is the main thing separating it from closed prompt-to-app tools.

How far can Lovable take a real product?

Comfortably to a working MVP with authentication, a database and CRUD. Beyond that — unusual business logic, heavy integrations, real scale — expect to hand the codebase to a developer. It shortens the first phase rather than replacing engineering.

What are credits and how fast do they go?

Each prompt that changes the app consumes credits. Iterating on a stubborn detail burns them quickly, so the practical monthly cost is usually higher than the headline for anyone actively building.

Lovable or Bolt?

Lovable is more reliable on full-stack apps with a database and produces steadier output. Bolt is faster for a quick front-end draft. For anything intended to survive past the prototype, Lovable is the safer starting point.

The bottom line

Lovable is the best way we know to turn an idea into a working app without writing code, and Pro at $25 a month is enough to find out whether the idea deserves more. Keep an eye on the credit balance once the app is live, because hosting and in-app AI draw from it too.

Choose Replit instead if you expect to keep editing the code yourself, or Bolt if all you need is a disposable prototype.
