Squarespace vs Webflow
Squarespace scores 8.4/10, Webflow 8.3/10. Where each one wins, what they cost and who should pick which, side by side.
The short answer
Squarespace scores 8.4/10 and Webflow scores 8.3/10 on our rubric. The scores are close enough that fit matters more than the headline number.
Squarespace leads on ease of use, design, value and support. Webflow leads on flexibility.
Squarespace starts at $19/mo with no free plan; Webflow starts at $15/mo and has a free plan. Webflow is the cheaper way in.
It depends on who is doing the building
Squarespace and Webflow both produce beautiful sites, but the design comes from different places. With Squarespace, the design comes from the template: typography, colours and spacing are chosen for you and applied consistently, and you customise within those rules. With Webflow, the design comes from you: you place boxes, set classes and build layouts from the ground up, with the precision of a design tool.
A business owner who wants a considered site in an afternoon will get there faster with Squarespace Core at $29 a month. A designer or agency with a specific layout in mind will hit Squarespace's limits and find Webflow liberating, at $15 a month for fixed pages or $25 with the CMS. Webflow's learning curve is real and measured in days. Squarespace's ceiling is also real, and you hit it the first time a layout does not fit the template.

Who each one is for
Squarespace. Portfolios, restaurants, studios and service businesses where visual quality is the point and the structure is conventional. If the site is mostly pages, images and a booking or contact path, this is the shortest route to something that looks professional.
Webflow. Agencies, designers and marketing teams who know exactly what the site should look like and will not accept a template's compromises. The CMS is genuinely flexible, and clean exportable code means the work is not trapped.

What a year costs
Squarespace
Basic is $19 a month on an annual plan, and it can sell. But every online store sale on Basic carries a 2% Squarespace transaction fee on top of card processing, and Core, at $29, removes it. The $10 difference is covered once you sell about $500 a month. Above that, Basic is the more expensive plan, and a store taking $1,500 a month pays roughly $240 more a year on Basic than on Core.
Plan price, billed yearlySquarespace transaction fee
Webflow
Webflow prices each site separately, and the yearly plans save up to 40% against monthly billing. The first question is whether you need the CMS, Webflow's content database for blog posts, case studies or any repeating content. Basic, at $15 a month, has no CMS at all and suits a brochure site of fixed pages. The moment you want a blog, you are on Premium at $25.
Site planAdd-ons
Who should skip each one
Squarespace
Sites needing unusual layouts, heavy custom functionality or a large catalogue. The template does most of the work, which is the benefit until it becomes the ceiling.
Webflow
A first-time site owner in a hurry. The learning curve is real and measured in days, not minutes. If the goal is to be online by tomorrow, this is the wrong tool.
The bottom line
Squarespace
For a design-led small business, Squarespace on the Core plan is excellent value: it looks good by default, sells without a platform fee, and gives you full code access if you ever need it. Skip Basic unless you are not selling anything.
Webflow
Webflow is the right answer when the design matters enough to justify learning a serious tool, or paying someone who already knows it. Start on Basic for a fixed-page site, or Premium the moment you need a blog or any repeating content.
