Weebly review
7.3A cheap, simple way to get online, now effectively a front end for Square. Fine for a basic site, dated for anything more.

What's good
- Genuinely simple drag and drop
- Square payments and point of sale built in
- The free tier is actually usable
What's not
- Templates look dated next to Wix or Squarespace
- Development has slowed since the Square acquisition
Weebly was one of the original drag-and-drop builders, and since Square bought it, it has become the simplest way to put a small shop or business site online next to a Square account. The editor is straightforward, every plan can sell, and Square's payments and point of sale are built in.
It has also stood still. The templates look dated beside Wix and Squarespace, and new features arrive slowly. For a café that already takes payments on Square, that is fine. For a new business choosing its first builder, there are more modern options at similar prices.
Selling with Square
Every plan, including Free, has a shopping cart with unlimited items, inventory management, in-store pickup, automatic tax calculation, coupons and Square gift cards. Digital goods and a shipping calculator start on Personal, and shipping labels on Personal too. Performance adds PayPal as a payment option, item reviews and abandoned-cart emails. If your business already runs on Square in person, orders and inventory stay in one system, which is the strongest reason to choose Weebly today.
What has not changed
The theme library is small and many designs look like the 2010s. There is no AI site generation of the kind Wix, Hostinger or B12 offer, and the app centre is modest. Weebly still works reliably; it simply has not kept pace, and the gap is visible in the finished sites.

Who it's for
A simple business site, particularly one already using Square for payments or in-person sales. The integration is the strongest reason to choose it now.
Who it isn't for
Anyone who cares how current the site looks, or who needs a growing feature set. Wix and Squarespace are both clearly ahead on design and momentum.
Limits worth knowing
- Templates look dated next to current builders
- Development pace has slowed markedly since the Square acquisition
- Smaller app ecosystem than Wix
- Increasingly tied to Square rather than standing alone
Questions people ask
Is Weebly still being developed?
It is maintained, but the pace has slowed and new investment goes to Square's wider ecosystem. Choose it for what it does today rather than for where it is heading.
Weebly or Wix?
Wix, for almost any new site: better templates, a larger app market and active development. Weebly holds up mainly if you are committed to Square and want the tight integration.
Is the free plan usable?
More than most, since even the free plan has a shopping cart. But it carries a Weebly address and Square ads, which is fine for a personal page and not for a business. Professional, at $15 a month billed yearly, is the realistic starting point.
Does Weebly work with Square payments?
Yes, natively, and that is now its main advantage. Online and in-person sales share one system, which helps businesses that sell both ways.
The bottom line
Weebly makes sense for a small business already using Square that wants an online shop connected to its tills, on the Professional plan.
Anyone else starting fresh will get a more modern site from Wix, Squarespace or Hostinger for similar money.
